Winter is here, Snow and Cold

Hello Snowmobile friends, Wow I can't believe how long I have updated my blog for you guys.   It's been a very slow start to the season with low snow and crazy temperatures.  Currently it's -41°C With a Wind Chill of -51°C.   Brrrrr No grooming for me this weekend as the groomer wont start as it has to be parked outside.  Friday night was a cold one too and I had a heck of a time getting the groomer ready for the next day.

This is a video I took of my Friday groomer prepping in -33C temperatures

We now got the snow and I'm out often on the trail grooming and I'm making videos for you guys.  It snowed everyday for a week,  Saturday Feb 6th it snowed non-stop for over 15hrs.

I also got stuck in the mud while going out grooming on the D108A to Hornepayne.

Bloody Sunday Signs

RXHello snowmobile friends, how do your done like the new changes to my blog?   You can leave me a comment bellow.   I don't know if you guys noticed but my blog hit 1 MILLION views a week ago, I forgot to celebrate it on here. Woo hooo. Thank you guys for following my blog.

Not much to report today, no new snow everything pretty well melted away.  This is not normal for this time of year, we usually have about 2+Feet of snow on the ground and trail packing are starting..  One good thing is that the ice is getting thicker on some small lakes, at places there is about 5 inches or more of good ice.

Today I went out with our new club volunteer David Dyell to put up some signs behind the church in town, we had to move the trail over because there is a new sleeping quarters that has been built nearby and we had to relocate the trail.   Try not to speed out there and keep the noise down ad this will be a quiet zone as there will be shift workers.    David will be our new Signage Coordinator this seasson, he's on training I'm teaching him how to.  He's a fast learner and he will be great at it.  I learned a lesson that I knew from before..... Wear gloves or you can cut your finger on poles.... Cut my fingers good, had blood on everything,   The thing is I did not know I had cut myself, I noticed blood on the stuff I was touching, I guess my fingers where numb by the cold wind and I cold not feel anything.   Safety first guys.

Well it's time for bed, going to finish up the signs after work tomorrow. Still plenty to do.  If anyone has a better way to pound posts in then those heavy steel Rams I would like to know.

Prepping the signs by removing old signs from the polls.

The Groomer garage and my friend Dave helping me out

This is what happens when you don't wear gloves.

The new Sleeping Quaters/complex  for the Gold Mine workers, there is close to a 100 rooms in there.

Do your snow dance guys we need that snow.

Keep on Grooming

New Snow Trails App by RiderX.

New App with Offline functionality, Just what we wanted.

Polaris Industries has recently released their new version of the Snow Trails by RiderX Trails App Version 4.0  Polaris says that the app is brand new from the ground up, the only thing that has not changed is the name.  This new app was built with feedback from 250,000+ Riders. Polaris is committed in building the best rider experience.

The new app offers Offline functionality. As most of us know, some of the best riding isn't around good cell service, the new app is optimized for low cellular service situations and it works with no cell service at all.  You will be able to download State or Provincial maps to your mobile device and have them with you all the time.  This is good news as you have heard me say before, I like the OFSC Mobile app but it don't have the offline use functionality..

The App will offer In-depth trail, parking & local ride information.   Snow depth data is a feature included to help you find the snow (Might come in handy this season) They have also expanded their points of interest and business listings section.

A cool app feature is the Virtual Garage, you can manage your Snowmobiles or any other powersports equipment's you have. The app has a manual maintenance log that you can input information about your toys.

Latest weather conditions,  Find places,Gas, Food & lodging information and more......

Visit the RiderX Website to sign up and get more information,  to download the App visit your app store and search for “RiderX.”   Availlable on Apple and Android devices.

It's over now, she's gone.

Well snowmobile friends, I have some bad news for you all this morning, After a 15years relationship,  my old old girl and I have parted ways.  She's been good too me, she was big, she was fast, we traveled the trails in the deep cold of winter and to the warm days of spring time.  We did trail work, trail brushing and signs, we went out on rescue call is the middle of the night,  you towed heavy loads of wood and stakes, have towed broken sleds down back to town and saved the day of broken down tourist, she was a hard worker and never complained.   She took me places I have never been too, She always brought me back safely home, never once has she left stranded on the trails.  She had a few names, The Beast, The BatMobile, The Heavy @#*$, but the one that most people knew her by was "The Flying Couch"  She was called "Couch" because with her confy seat and Air Ride Suspension it was like you where sitting on one riding down the trail, "Flying" well if you have been riding with me or have been follwing me over the years have see her in action getting some good air time, putting some sport sled to shame.

You have been a great fast sled, You where part of the family, you got to live my passion with me, shooting videos, taking trail pictures and having fun while entertaining  people over the years.   It was hard handing out the keys and seing you take off and go away as there has been so many good... and some Bad l memories. lol

Thank you for all the good years, may your new owner have as much fun as I did.  :)

Winter is here?

Good morning snowmobile friends, well the weather has turned around for the good and it looks like mother nature finally made up her mind and decided to give us our winter, She must be a reader of my blog and she saw my last posting Hahaha.

On Wednesday we got heavy rain and everything melted, then Thursday night everything turned to cold and the snow came in giving us a few inches of good snow.  last night the cold was still around and last I checked it was down to -20C.     That's some great ice making weather, I'm sure that every spot that had open water is now frozen over solid by now.   I sure hope the cold trend continues and we are done with the rain.

Follow me on twitter for more update  information.  @thegroomerguy

I will go out and take some pictures around here to show you guy how it looks today. check back later today.

Mother nature needs to make up her mind. it's hot or it's cold?

I'm sad to say this morning that the rain came in and took all the snow and ice we had, wipeout everything we had.   The ice was getting so good some had started ice fishing on small ponds, we where even trying to predict the first snowmobile to attempt to run Green Lake and we figured by next week somebody would be the first.  Well that won't happen soon...... or will it? Looking at the forecast it seems like things are going to change and the weather for the next 14 days shows the weather changing to cold.  Fridays night's time low is going to be in the low -14C (6.8F)  Currently the temperature is at 3C (37.4F) but  snow is in the forecast and we are looking at up to 10cm  ( 4in ) of new snow.

I have posted pictures to compare the snow we had a few days ago and as of this morning, I also included a picture taken on this day 5 years ago and a link to a video I made that day.  check back today as I may do a post about that special day on the roads from 5 years ago, it was quite the day with cars in the ditch... no snow plows and I was pushing snow with my front bumper and the roads where still open to traffic.

(I don't know why Blogger leaves a BIG gap between my text and my first picture, it has started doing this recently and I can't fix it. Scroll down to see the picture)

Picture taken a few days ago, what a difference, On the street is snow packed and you can ride a snowmobile on it and over night it changes to bare pavement.

Local weather forecast for Dubreuilville

This picture was take 5 year ago today, I was on Hwy 101 between Wawa and Chapleau heading to Missanabie to do some work on the F trail and got caught in a snowstorm.

Here is a video that I posted on Youtube about my drive in the storm   Warning, explicit language.

Rain..... we don't want you here... only if you turn to snow.

Today is the day we see if we keep the snow we have right now or we will restart. Calling for  3C (37.4F) today and 5mm of rain then tomorrow they are calling for 5cm of snow.   I sure hope they have it wrong for today and we get the snow instead of the rain.  So far at 6:30am it's -4C  (24.8F)    I will keep you posted of the weather today. Will take pictures and video... keep fingers and toes crossed that we get snow.

I can't wait to have this as my view.  My night time office.

New Snow this morning.

Good morning snowmobile friends, We woke up in Dubreuilville with a inch on new snow on the ground, it was beautiful sight to see.  We where not expecting new snow but you never know when lake effect snow will coming.   More snow in the forecast for Thursday with 5Cm on the way.  Calling for 5mm of rain on Wednesday but they are often off here when they predict the temperature here so we might get snow instead of the rain.    I sure hope so as I do not want to loose what we have right now.

Sorry for the pictures being not centred, I don't know what's wrong with blogger lately, it's such a pain to use, nothing seem to align.  I can't center my pictures, I leave barely any space on top of my pictures and when it goes life there is ton of spaces...????   I will have to look into this, might have to find a new place to host my blog page.

My Car at work this morning, there was about an inch of snow when I took off for work and since there has been a bit more that came down.

You could go for a ride down the street if you wanted too as the streets are snow packed.

Dubreuilville and area update.

The Snow has started to hit the area, South of Wawa on the D trail in the Halfway haven area is starting to look good, that area gets crazy amounts of snow every year.  It's a slow start compared to other years but BIG snow storm is soon to come.  Get those snowmobiles ready  because the snow will come.

In Dubreuilville we have less then an inch on the ground but he have been getting colder temperatures and that's what we need before the big snow.  This morning the temperature was -12C, perfect weather for freezing those small swamps and creeks, if we get too much snow it insulates the ground and the soft areas don't freeze up and it can cause us problems early in the season. Soon the brushing of our trails will start with the New Skidsteer and brush cutter the owners of the  Magpie Relay Motel bought for brushing the local trails.  I can't wait to see it in action and take videos of it.

There's talks about reopening the D trail West to White River and onto Marathon, it's been a long time since this trail has seen a groomer I think it was last groomed in 2011.  The Marathon Snowmobile Club is now part of District 13 and they are a hard working club and they are trying to link back up to the OFSC trail system and the rest of D-13.  So far they where able to secure a garage to store the BR 180 Groomer with the White River Township.  If all goes to plan they would have a groomer staged in White River and  volunteers would groom the D trail West and East.  Still lot's of planning left to do for this to open this year but we are hopping it will materialize and we will be riding to Marathon this winter. Keep up the good work Marathon.
There is a down side of having the D trail going West this winter is that there will be some logging on our end of the  trail this winter, Loggers will be using about 3kms of the road (Road 12) we usually groom and one portion of the twin lake road (The road after you cross hwy 519). I'm meeting the logging company sometime this week to look at maps to determine where they are actually planning to cut this winter.

Dan Karchur from Sault Ste Marie Ontario found snow this weekend 140kms North Of Sault Ste Marie heading in the Halfway haven Area. (Frater and Eaton area) Dan is always on the hunt for snow.

Here's a resent  picture taken at halfway Haven.  Over 13 inches of snow.

Looks like Winter is showing it's face.

Hello snowmobile friends, we finally got some snow on the ground... And so far it's staying.   We need more cold so the ground can freeze up those water holes, soft wet areas for us to go over with the groomer.

Brushing is to start on the the trails with the new equipment that was purchased by the owner at the Motel Magpie Relay in Dubreuilville.  This is going to save us lots of time on the trails.  More snow in the forecast, looks like winter is here.

The next pictures are from my trip to Wawa Thursday night on Hwy 17
